Vernon Road is in a residential area of Edgbaston, Birmingham. There are four properties on the I20 FLOODS2 register (No’s 63, 65, 67 and 69 Vernon Road).
First records of flooding in the area date back to 1985. Then 2005 with flooding affecting timber flood gates installed at the front of the properties.
Prior to the works it we would determine that the combined 450mm dia sewer in Vernon Road has insufficient capacity. Consequently, this is resulting in flooding at the affected properties.
CPC Civils were successfully awarded the Vernon Road contract in 2013 and would complete works later that year.
Vernon Road is lies within a residential area of Edgbaston, Birmingham, and within 500 meters of St Paul’s School for Girls.
The scheme would involve eliminating local flooding by installing a pre-cast storage tank with culvert chambers. This would replace an existing 450mm diameter combined sewer.
The replacement storage tank would measure 130 meters in length, 3 meters by 2 meters in dimension and include a dry weather flow creating 629m3 of storage.
There were 64 units installed in sections, with 6 of the units having pre-drilled core holes to allow lateral connection from other systems.
Our team would use a CPC Civils Movax Piling Unit to install a sheeted and framed cofferdam for the temporary works. CPC Civils would instruct MGF Excavation Safety Solutions to design this.
During the programme, the team would lift the culverts into place using 110 tonne Mobile Crane. We would then pull them together using electric winches which sat on a concrete base.
Preferred Option – STW Enterprise
