“Well done Wayne Barron, John Donnellan, Pat Concannon & Conall Cunningham We had a phone call from Paul Dennison, the Severn Trent Engineer at Kingsholm Road. He and his colleagues are very complimentary of the work at Kingsholm. They praised the tidiness, the setup, the workforce attitude and the standard of workmanship completed at the site.” – Mick HealeyAmey PLC, Contracts Manager |
CPC Civils were successfully awarded the Kingsholme Road, Gloucester (Phase 3) contract in February 2013 and completed works in January 2014. The scheme was to deliver upgraded and refurbished sewer and storm water systems to the Kingsholme Road area.
CPC Civils undertook the construction and laying of 1,016 meters of new pipe, with sizes ranging from 150mm diameter to 900mm diameter. This included all lateral connections as well as the construction of 25 new man holes, with a full road reinstatement.
Additionally, CPC Civils were required to install drive and reception shafts for the installation of a new 150mm rising main section, which would run into the new system, reception and drive pits. This would subsequently allow DELTA Drilling Company to install a new auger bored 900mm pipe.
The project faced major engineering challenges to the installation of the pipe work, due to the poor ground conditions (a mixture of running sands and gravels) and high-water table. CPC Civils worked with North Midlands Construction and Enterprise to overcome these challenges, and to find practical and safe methods of replacement pipe construction. As a result, sealed sheeted pits were installed for the entirety of the pipework.
Furthermore, well-pointing and sump pumps were installed to maintain a water table which was low enough to safety install the pipe system.
Additional air testing was carried on all pipework throughout the installation phase to ensure product quality under the conditions.
Finally, additional gangs were tasked on the project to help maintain programme and minimise preliminary works and subsequently costs to the client.
CPC Civils also worked in collaboration with the Highways Agency to ensure local businesses could remain operational and to ensure they had safe access routes, including effective signage for the public, to minimise any loss in trade.
