Client Name

Carillion

Project Type

Flood Defence

CPC Civils were successfully awarded the Lower Don Valley Flood Defence Project contract in September 2015 and completed works in June 2016. Lower Don Valley was a flood defence scheme in the centre of Sheffield.

The scheme involved increasing the existing flood defence height to ensure protection for up to 1 in 100-year flooding. The project involved constructing 140m of reinforced concrete walls and footings, cladding works in accordance with planning permissions, and increasing the height of the 110-meter-long existing wall by 3 courses.

To ensure delivery of such a complicated project, liaison with all the stakeholders was essential and critical to the success of the scheme.

To ensure protection of the environment and local businesses CPC Civils installed 155m of temporary flood defences on Nursery Street using a Duo Block system. This not only ensured their protection, but minimised any disruption during the construction phase. Furthermore, all plant used on the project was fuelled with ‘Bio Oil’.

In line with the client’s core values, the core workforce employed to undertake the project were based in Sheffield.

Furthermore, a satellite office was set up in Sheffield to support the local work, we are proud to confirm that this has now become a permanent office for CPC Civils.

“Well done Wayne Barron, John Donnellan, Pat Concannon, Conall Cunningham and the CPC team. We had a phone call from Paul Dennison (Severn Trent Water), he and his colleagues are very complimentary of the work at Kingsholm. They praised the tidiness, the setup, the workforce attitude and the standard of workmanship completed at the site ”

“I could sit and write multiple examples where CPC and your team have, in my opinion, gone above and beyond what would normally be expected. I would however just like to say that this ongoing attitude, and excellent working relationship, has not only aided Centro in 2 current Metro extensions it has also given me huge confidence in the planning of 5 further Metro extensions. It’s also made my job very enjoyable”

“Interesting weekend replacing a 12m length of sewer that had collapsed underneath a railway line in Bloxwich. Within 48 hours the team were able to diagnose the problem and work up a design and complete the repair. Amazing collaboration between STW, Amey, CPC and Network Rail”
