The purpose of the Birmingham City Centre Public Realm improvement works project was to continue regeneration of Birmingham’s city centre – achieving improvements to Victoria Square and its surrounding areas. This includes refurbishing The River fountain, replacing temporary security measures with permanent security measures at multiple locations, and improving pedestrian areas.
The Victoria Square fountain had not been used as a water feature since 2005 due to systemic problems within the structure of the fountain. CPC Civils, in conjunction with our specialist contractor Fountains Direct, would be refurbishing the Victoria Square Fountain.

To enable these issues to be resolved, CPC Civils would remove the sculptures within the fountain and cladding to allow a full investigaton and lining of the structure. Then, once lined and all leaks resolved, the cladding would be re-installed. Next the Sculptures would be reinstated enabling the fountain to function as The River water feature once more.
The wider city centre works would involve small teams removing the existing paving, upgrading the drainage systems and sub-base, then installing new paving across all the target areas.
In addition, CPC Civils would conduct a full stakeholder engagement to ensure that anyone that may be affected by the works can be fully engaged. Accordingly, we could then adapt our plans in order to minimise any disruption to businesses, stakeholders and the general public.
