Edgbaston Reservoir was built in 1827 by Thomas Telford to help supply water to Birmingham’s canal system, and it still serves that purpose today.
The local Nature Reserve is officially recognized as a Site of Nature Conservation Interest.
Spanning 70 acres, it is mostly open water, surrounded by woodland and grassland, providing a habitat for various birds, bats, and newts.
It also hosts school events and activities, giving pupils a better understanding of wildlife and the environment, along with opportunities for sailing and rowing.
The purpose of the project at Midland Sailing Club would be to complete adaptations to the launch ramp. The works would make the ramp wheelchair-friendly, ensuring people with disabilities can access the water and participate in activities.
The works started on 31 October 2022, with the aim of resurfacing the launch ramp and raising the level of the intermediate landing zone by 200m.
Work would also reduce the incline of the first half of the launch ramp leading to the intermediate landing zone.
Additionally, we would install a new winch and apply anti-slip to the concrete once all other works was completed.
CPC would complete the work on 11 November 2022.
